5 Tools for Building Your Team

It's Monday.

I'm relaxed and at ease– excited for the week ahead and ready to roll!

 

It's not always like this.

 

Most Mondays I feel overwhelmed and a little sick to my stomach about how I am going to accomplish all that needs to be done.

I exercise, and fight the urge to cut it short because my list is long and it's an easy excuse to jump straight onto the computer and answer emails. 

 

I know what you're thinking... "well, Claire, it's because you've just come off the holiday break that you are feeling this spaciousness!"

And yes, I'm sure that having fewer requests coming in, being well rested, and having had time to think has helped.

 

But there's more!

 

The real difference on this magic Monday comes from…

  • being focused on my purpose and my top priorities
  • being clear on which powerful actions to take (and what NOT to do), and when they will be done
  • knowing that my team is prepared... ready with their own action plans and equipped with the skill and authority to get the work done
  • seeing my routine meetings, complete with clear agendas, secured on my calendar for the entire month ahead (collaboration and communication…CHECK!!)

 

It's amazing how different I feel on a Monday morning, when my WHY is compelling, my plan is in place, my team is empowered, and my goals and outcomes are clear. 

 

Why have I spent so many years NOT COMMITTING to these powerful and effective behaviors???

 

The obvious reason, is that it takes TIME to pause, plan, and engage others. Time that I often don't feel that I have because there are too many emergencies to handle. (Does any of this sound familiar?)

 

But I'm a grown up now.

I realize no one is going to do this for me. 

It's MY job. 

And if I'm going to set a good example and be a good leader, I MUST MODEL THE WAY!

 

So- here are the 5 powerful and effective behaviors I will be leveraging above all others in 2021…

  1. Creating CLEAR, actionable and achievable GOALS. (Annual, quarterly, and monthly)
  2. Ensuring that my goals are driven by my CORE PURPOSE. (This gives me FIRE!)
  3. Allowing and cultivating OWNERSHIP and accountability for my team. Giving them the clarity, authority and support they need to reach our shared goals in a timely manner.
  4. COMMUNICATING regularly via team meetings so that relationships are strong, progress is tracked, and issues are handled early and often.
  5. Establishing PROCESS so that our success is replicable, and to that we can learn and grow together and become even more effective over time. 

 

I am ALL IN this year, and I'll be applying these 5 powerful practices along with a mighty team of leaders from a variety of organizations all year in my newest leadership course, LX EVOLVE (the LX stands for Leadership Transformation!)
